What happens after I find a violation?

Updated May 2026

Finding a violation is the starting point. What matters next is turning the detection into a documented case and getting the ad taken down. Here is the sequence most teams follow.

1. Review the evidence

Open the case and check the ad screenshots, the display and destination URLs, the full redirect chain, and the keywords and countries where the ad appeared. This tells you what ran, where, and how the traffic was routed.

2. Identify who is behind it

Use the advertiser name and, where available, the affiliate ID and tracking platform shown on the case. If no affiliate ID is present, check that your affiliate parameters are configured, since that is the most common reason attribution is missing.

3. Assign and track the case

Assign the case to whoever will handle it and move it to In Progress. The assignee is notified, and the note field keeps a record of what was sent, when, and what came back.

4. Contact the affiliate directly

Send the evidence to the affiliate or partner responsible and ask them to stop the ad. Most cases end here. If the ad continues, withhold or reverse the commission, and terminate the partnership for repeat offenders. Where the advertiser is not a partner at all, your options are a trademark complaint with the search engine or escalation through your legal team.

5. Confirm it stopped, then close the case

Watch the Last detected date on the case. Once detections stop, set the status to Solved. Keep an eye on the advertiser afterwards, since repeat offenders often return under a different advertiser name or domain.
